Story by Josephine Mugiyo, Diplomatic Correspondent

PRESIDENT Emmerson Mnangagwa has arrived in Antananarivo, where he will attend the inauguration ceremony of Madagascar’s President-elect, Andry Rajoelina, set for this Saturday.

Rajoelina, a former DJ and Mayor of Antananarivo, will be assuming his third term in office.

He first came into power in 2009.

President Mnangagwa will join other heads of state from Africa for the inauguration ceremony.

The Indian Ocean Island of Madagascar held its elections in November this year.

A number of countries within SADC including Zimbabwe, Madagascar and Eswatini, held elections this year, while the Democratic Republic of Congo will take to the polls on the 20th of this month.

The emphasis in the region has been on peaceful elections as Africa chooses its leaders.

They have also been growing calls for African countries to guard against neo-colonialism which presents itself in various forms.
