More than 50 bouts lined up for Champion of Champions boxing tourney

Story by Mthokozisi Dube

THE resort city of Victoria Falls will this Saturday host the last boxing tournament of the year dubbed “the Champion of Champions boxing tournament” at the Victoria Falls Boxing Academy with more than 50 bouts lined up for the boxing contest.

All 10 provinces will be represented at the tournament which will be used to prepare for the Youth World Championships.

Boxers are raring to wind the year in style.

“These tournaments are good for us as they ensure we remain in the ring. I am actually waiting to win tomorrow,” said a boxer.

“I won in the last tournament held at the palace so I believe I will win the fly lightweight category in Vic Falls,” said boxer, Clive Wasarirevu.

Another boxer, Tawanda Dlamini said, “I have put in a lot of preparations for this tournament. I want to be a champion in Victoria Falls.”

The boxing tournament, which is being hosted by the Victoria Falls Boxing Academy in conjunction with the Zimbabwe Boxing Federation, comes hard on the heels of another boxing tour in Armenia and will see boxers being selected for the Youth World Championships set for Kazakhstan next year.
