ZPC Hwange target PSL promotion

Story by Mthokozisi Dube

AMBITIOUS Southern Region Division One side ZPC Hwange have set their sights at sealing premier league promotion.

For over two decades, the “electricity men” have come tantalizingly close to promotion, earning them the nickname “perennial campaigners”  in the Southern Region Division One league.

This season, ZPC Hwange decided on a fresh approach. They parted ways with long-time coach Njabulo Dube, who is now assistant coach at struggling PSL side Hwange FC. In his place, they appointed former Chipangano player and coach Mebelo Njekwa.

Njekwa’s influence seems to be paying off, with ZPC Hwange currently enjoying a three-match unbeaten run. This has instilled renewed belief within the team’s leadership.

“We started well this season, but we do not want it to just be a mere good start. We want PSL this season. It has been more than 20 years, and we want to seal it with more games to spare,” said ZPC Hwange secretary, Mehluli Thebe.

In week three, ZPC Hwange further solidified their title aspirations by crushing Ajax Hotspurs 3-0.

Experienced players Eddie Nkulungo and Courage Sibanda found the net, while leading goal scorer Justinme Kaunda added another goal to his tally, bringing him to a joint lead with Nkayi United’s Tinotenda Chitete, both with four goals each.
