Scores of footballers turn up for the Hwange trials

THE mining community of Hwange is buzzing after the return of Premier Soccer League action to the town with scores of young footballers trying their luck at the club this Monday.

Popularly known as Chipangano, Hwange are hoping to make a big impression on their return to the top flight this season.

Hwange have cast the net wider with the team conducting trials in the mining town this Monday where scores of young hopefuls, some as young as 17 tried their luck.

Such is the enthusiasm with Chipangano determined to illuminate the top flight.

“We have invited players from Hwange, Lupane, Binga and many other places. We are giving our local boys a chance to be part of the team,” said Bongani Mafu, Hwange FC’ coach.

By the time the 2023 PSL season kicks off, Hwange are hoping to have assembled a competitive squad trimmed down to 25 senior players and five rookies.

Chipangano who are no strangers to relegation also believes they have what it takes to survive the dreaded chop this time around.
