ACTING President General Retired Dr Constantino Chiwenga has seen off two Ambassador-Designates who are leaving for diplomatic missions with the mandate to propel the Second Republic’s engagement and re-engagement agenda.
Ambassadors-Designate, Sophia Nyamubeza, and Cecil Chinenere met Acting President General Retired Dr Constantino Chiwenga at his Munhumutapa offices in Harare to receive their marching orders as they leave for their diplomatic posts.
The ambassador-designates say they will prioritise Zimbabwe’s vision for increased trade and investment under the National Development Strategy One (NDS1) and the Africa Continental Free Trade Area along with Agenda 2063.
“I have been ordered to spread the message of Zimbabwe’s engagement thrust and the improvement of ties between Zimbabwe and Ethiopia as well as the African Union and UNECA. Economic diplomacy is key in economic growth and that is the message in line with Vision 2030,” said Ms Sophia Nyamubeza, Ambassador designate to Ethiopia.
“We want to deepen ties with Canada and you will note that on the issue of sanctions, Canada has its targeted sanctions on Zimbabwe so we hope that as we work towards the lifting of those we address these sanctions with Canada, economic diplomacy is also a key message of the Second Republic and my mission is to enhance trade. We have Canadian companies operating here in Zimbabwe particularly in the mining sector so we want to expand these ties into other areas of cooperation,” said Mr Cecil Chinenere, Ambassador-Designate to Canada.
Ambassador-Designate Nyamubeza will represent Zimbabwe in Ethiopia, the African Union, and UNECA, while Ambassador-Designate Chinenere will be the country’s top envoy to Canada.
