Mash East Athletics Board in talent search programme

Story by Jerold Sasa

The Mashonaland East Athletics Board (MEAB) has partnered with the private sector in identifying talent at the grassroots level.

Murewa District was the first port of call for the Mashonaland East Athletics Board where they partnered with the Mahachi family in a 10km road race, a 5 and 3km fun run as part of the memorial service for Gogo Constance Mahachi.

The athletics board says it is on a drive to identify talent at the grassroots level, targeting all districts in the province.

“We want to spread our talent identification programmes in search of talented athletes who are not being identified,” said Knox Senzele, MEAB chairman.

Athletes noted that such events are an opportunity to showcase their talents.

“Am happy that I have been given this opportunity to take part in this race as we rarely get this chance. Kudzanai Nyambaya, the winner.

An athelete, Alfred Shara said, “Such events are very important to us as athletes because it has been held in our area which minimises costs.”

Talent identification at the grassroots level is key in building competitive athletes and teams that can compete at national and international levels.
