ICC World Cup qualifier – Oman and Scotland win matches

Story by Mthokozisi Dube

OMAN are on a roll at the ongoing 2023 World Cup Qualifier after beating the United Arab Emirates by five wickets to win their second successive Group B match at Bulawayo Athletic Club this Wednesday.

The going is getting tough for the United Arab Emirates (UAE) after losing another match at the hands of on-fire Oman by five wickets with 24 balls to spare.

The UAE won the toss and elected to bat setting a target of 228 having been restricted to 227 for eight.

The chase was a stroll in the park as Oman reached the target with 228 for the loss of five wickets after 46 overs.

Shoaib Khan put up a master class which saw him being named man of the match after surpassing a half-century alongside Aqib Llas and Mohammed Nadeem.

Oman now tops Group B with two victories and four points.

Across town at Queens Sports Club, Scotland snatched a win after beating Ireland by a wicket.

Ireland had set a target of 287 after posting 286 for eight which was overturned by Scotland’s 289 for 9.

Cricket action heads back to Harare this Thursday as the West Indies face Nepal, while the Netherlands have unfinished business with the USA.
