Harare Derby ends in a stalemate

Story by Raynald Ngwarati

Dynamos and CAPS United could not be separated at Rufaro Stadium this Sunday as the Harare Derby ended in a one-all stalemate to roundup matchday 12 in the domestic Premiership.

Only two goals were scored in the Harare Derby on Sunday as neither of the two giants could find a winner in the iconic match at the ceremonial home of football.

Kevin Moyo had thrusted Dynamos into the lead from the penalty spot after Junior Bunjira handled the ball in the box, but Ralph Kawondera denied his former side the three points with 11 minutes to go.

The last ten minutes had some shots at goal but neither of the sides could get the ball in the back of the net as the iconic derby ended in a one-all stalemate.

While the Harare Derby grabbed the headlines, the Manicaland Derby was one-sided as high-flying Manica Diamonds retraced their way back to the top of the Premiership standings.

The Gem Boys outwitted Green Fuel by two goals to nil as Saul Chaminuka was given a bitter pill to swallow in charge of his new team.

There was high-octane action at Luveve Stadium as Chicken Inn averted a late Simba Bhora surge to hold on to a 3-2 win.

Simba looked determined to fight back scoring the second in stoppage time but the efforts could not result in an equaliser as Chicken Inn clinched Maximum points.
