IT was a day of celebrations for the Zaka community in Masvingo province this Saturday following the appointment of Air Marshal Jacob John Nzvede as the new Commander of the Air Force of Zimbabwe.
The event, attended by dignitaries, military officials, and community members, highlighted the significance of the achievement to the Zaka people.
The Zaka community thanked President Emmerson Mnangagwa for ensuring the development and empowerment of the rural populace.
“As the Neromwe people, we want to thank President Mnangagwa for this honour. Air Marshal Nzvede is one of our own and we want to assure you that he will carry the mandate as directed,” said traditional leader, Chief Neromwe.
Representing the Commander Zimbabwe Defence Forces, Major General William Dube commended Air Marshal Nzvede’s dedication and highlighted the responsibility entrusted upon him to carry forward the tradition of excellence.
“This is indeed a very deserving recognition of hard work and commitment to excellence. You are now seized with the task of carrying forward the organisation’s tradition of excellence.”
Air Vice Marshal Biltim Chingono expressed confidence in Air Marshal Nzvede’s ability to fulfil his mandate.
“As Air Force of Zimbabwe, we are confident that Air Marshal Nzvede will fulfil the mandate he was given by the President and Commander in Chief of the Zimbabwe Defence Forces.”
Masvingo province used the occasion to acknowledge President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s focus on nationwide development.
“The rise of Air Marshal Nzvede was not sudden but was a long and winding journey. To Air Marshal Nzvede we say, ahead of you is yet another demanding task. You have been entrusted to keep our wings versatile, agile, and combative,” said Masvingo Minister of State for Provincial Affairs and Devolution, Honorable Ezra Chadzamira.
ZANU PF Politburo member, Honourable Lovemore Matuke said, “As a province, we are excited about the appointment of Air Marshal Nzvede as Commander Air Force of Zimbabwe. We urge the youths from this district and beyond to emulate such exemplary traits by one of their own.”
Air Marshal Nzvede, visibly touched by the outpouring of support, reaffirmed his commitment to serving the country.
“I’m honoured by the support you are giving me as my kinsman. I promise to continue carrying my duties diligently guided by the principles of patriotism, loyalty and hard work,” he said.
The celebratory event featured various entertainment acts, marking a momentous occasion for Zaka.
Air Marshal Nzvede was recently appointed by President Emmerson Mnangagwa to become Commander of the Air Force of Zimbabwe following the retirement of Chief Air Marshal Elson Moyo.
