HARARE Province have been crowned the Interprovincial Handball Tournament champions after dominating both the male and female categories.

Hosts Harare were in a class of their own after outclassing the other competing seven provinces at the inaugural Interprovincial Handball Tournament played at the University of Zimbabwe grounds this Sunday.

Harare who had shown signs of promise during the group stages on Saturday coined the tournament with victories on both the men’s and women’s fronts.

On the women’s end, Harare comprehensively beat Mashonaland West 24-10, before the men clinched a nail-biting 22-21 victory over Manicaland Province.

Meanwhile, the Zimbabwe Handball Federation (ZHF) was impressed with the talent on display, with the tournament serving as a platform for national team selection.

“We decided to come up with an inter-provincial tournament where each province is bringing its best provincial players to come and compete at a national championship. During the tournament, our national team coaches are selecting various players to beef up our male and female national teams,” Said ZHF president, Edson Chirowodza.

Seven male teams as well as seven female teams converged at the University of Zimbabwe grounds to compete for honors at the two-day tournament.

Every province had the task to select their best players to compete at the tourney.
