FORMER Ngezi Platinum midfielder, Anelka Chivandire is the latest Zimbabwean to join the great trek to Botswana after joining top flight side, Orapa United.
Chivandire left Ngezi Platinum after his contract expired at the end of last year and has found a new home in Botswana where he will join a host of other Zimbabwean footballers.
The 25-year-old, who signed a two-year deal with Orapa United, joins the former Harare City pair of striker Wilfred Muvirimi and coach Taurai Mangwiro at Orapa United, who are currently third in the Botswana Premier League.
Botswana is proving to be a destination of choice for most Zimbabwean footballers after former Highlanders skipper Nqobizitha Masuku moved to Jeaneng Galaxy, while former Bulawayo City forward Jacob Nduna joined Masitaoka.
Zimbabwean coaches are also flocking to Botswana with Mangwiro joining former Highlanders gaffer Mandla Mpofu, who moved to Masitaoka last year and another Bosso son, Rahman Gumbo currently with Morupule Wanderers on a two-year contract.
Despite the Botswana Premier League being ranked lowly in Africa, foreign leagues are turning out to be a viable option for local players to feature in CAF club competitions and develop professionally after Zimbabwe was suspended from International football by world football governing body FIFA.
