WEST Indies are firmly in control of the second Test against Zimbabwe after gaining a 175-run lead before the rains interrupted play at Queens Sports Club this Monday.
The weather had the final say at Queens Sports Club with the better part of the final session being interrupted by rain.
By then the Caribbeans were in control after getting a 175-run lead against the hosts with two wickets in hand.
West Indies dominated for much of the day with the bat, but Zimbabwe clawed back at the end after getting four wickets to bring respectability to the score.
“We are quite happy with where we are now, we are building a good lead and we hope we can add a bit more and get to 350 to give our bowlers enough breathing room,” said Roston Chase – West Indies all-rounder.
The hosts reckon they have to bat the game back into life.
“We need to bat very well and make sure that we get back into the game, they have a good lead, but they are not very far away and early wickets will be key tomorrow,” noted Victor Nyauchi – Chevrons bowler.
Victor Nyauchi and Brandon Mavuta each got three wickets to lead the fight back for the home side, while Roston Chase tip-scored for the visitors with a 70.
Rain is forecast for the third day of the match.
