The Zimbabwe senior men’s cricket team, the Chevrons, are satisfied after salvaging a draw against West Indies in the first Test and believe a positive approach will be key going forward.
Zimbabwe held out for a draw against the West Indies in the first Test, after initially gunning for victory.
The Chevrons have been playing positive and aggressive cricket since the appointment of Dave Houghton as head coach.
In a space of nine months, Zimbabwe has shifted from being a defensive team to an aggressive unit that has been challenging some of the best teams in the world.
Chevrons batsman Gary Ballance said, “The mindset is to go for a win at all costs. You also saw it with the declaration it was a bold one, but that’s how we want to play.”
Experts also believe that it is not all about attacking cricket but understanding game situations.
“The new approach has been wonderful, but what I like most was that after attacking when they lost wickets, they were smart enough to go for a draw; that shows that there is a lot of work being done in the background,” noted cricket expert, Dean du Plessis.
The second test gets underway on Sunday with the two teams locked at one all.
