Chevrons face tough task against the West Indies

Story by Lawrence Trusida, Sports Editor

WEST Indies gave the Chevrons a glimpse of what to expect after showing their bowling and batting prowess in the drawn warm-up match against Zimbabwe Eleven at Bulawayo Athletic Club.

The warm-up match between Zimbabwe XI and West Indies ended in a draw.

The visitors batted first and put up an emphatic 517 runs on the board before dismissing the hosts for a mere 122 runs.

The match ended with the Caribbeans batting for the second innings and even though it was drawn, the Windies dominated with both bat and bowl.

With Zimbabwe likely to be missing four key players in bowler Blessing Muzarabani and all-rounders Sean Williams, Sikander Raza and Ryan Burl for the upcoming test series, the momentum is likely going to be with the visitors.

“The momentum is definitely with West Indies they are at full strength and we are missing key players and we need to be very brave with our selections because we know they don’t play spin well,” said Dean du Plessis, a cricket expert.

Zimbabwe and West Indies are set to clash in a two-match test series which gets underway on Saturday at Queens Sports Club.
