VOTING in the Gutu West by-election ended this Saturday evening with the process being described as peaceful, fair and credible.
It was a busy day in Gutu West Constituency as people had an opportunity to choose their preferred parliamentary candidate.
The ZBC News visited a number of polling stations across Gutu West Constituency where people confirmed that the voting process went on smoothly.
“I came here at around 6:30 in the morning and as soon as the polling station opened the queue started moving and now it’s 8 o’clock, I’m on my way home. The process is fast and smooth,” said a voter.
Another said, “We did not face any challenges the process is going on well.”
Presiding officers also confirmed that the election went on smoothly and peacefully.
Tariro Primary School polling station presiding officer said, “Here at Tariro Primary School polling station, elections are going on very well. People are coming in their numbers and voting in an orderly manner.”
“At Tungamirai Secondary School polling station as you can see, voting is in progress in a peaceful manner and we expect to finish that way,” said the presiding officer.
Gutu West Constituency Elections Officer, Mr Musasa Augustine confirmed that all polling stations officially closed at 7 pm.
“I can confirm that elections in Gutu West went on very well. We opened at 7 am and closed at 7 pm. The process was smooth we did not encounter major problems and we expect to finish the whole process peacefully,” he said.
Now that all polling stations have officially closed and counting is in progress, people await the release of the official results.
