THE Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission (ZACC) is conducting Integrity Committee training workshops countrywide as it steps up the anti-corruption drive.
the training workshop conducted in Chipinge this Tuesday has been welcomed as a step in the right direction in promoting a culture of integrity and transparency.
“As the Town Secretary I am delighted by the steps taken by government in fighting corruption within our communities. Our internal committees are being trained and capacitated to know how to fight and react to corruption,” said Chipinge Town Council, Town Secretary, Mr James Mutemera.
“We are overwhelmed by this support from the government to ensure we all move together in fighting corruption. Some of our employees engage in corrupt activities but in ignorance so we welcome this initiative,” said Chipinge RDC Chief Executive Officer, Mr Blessing Mamvosha.
The Integrity Committees are targeting local authorities and public institutions.
“As ZACC we have resolved to take a pro-active approach to fight corruption through awareness and sensitisation meetings. In that regard, we are training all local authorities, rural and urban, as well as public institutions. We have seen that some corrupt activities are done in ignorance hence the need to ensure public officers are aware of their actions,” said Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission representative, Mr Tineyi Majada.
Zimbabwe is implementing various anti-corruption strategies, including setting up specialised courts and arming ZACC with arresting powers, as part of its commitment to the United Nations Convention Against Corruption (UNCAC).
