World Tourism Day celebrations to take place in Mutoko

Story by Jerald Sasa

TOURISM players in Mutoko are excited at the prospect of hosting World Tourism Day celebrations this Wednesday, saying the event will market the district as a tourist destination.

Dubbed the Mashonaland East home of hospitality, Mutoko District will host this year’s World Tourism Day, a development that has been met with excitement by tourism players, including hosts, Suswe Resort, who are upbeat about opportunities set to be unlocked by the event.

“We are so excited about what is going to happen in our district as we seek to establish ourselves as a tourism destination,” said Suswe Lodges manager, Wilbert Nyamakope.

“Mutoko is known for its hospitality and this event gives us an opportunity to showcase what we have,” said Gohori Resort director, Bernard Kasekete.

The Zimbabwe Tourism Authority (ZTA) says the choice of Suswe Resorts which has introduced the concept of caravans and greening the environment resonates with the theme: “Tourism and Green Investments”.

ZTA Mashonaland East manager, Mrs Kudzai Majuru said, “Our choice was informed by what is offered here, where they have tried their best to preserve the environment.”

The 2023 World Tourism Day whose global celebrations will be held in Ryad, Saudi Arabia, is marked annually by the United Nations World Tourism Organisation since 1980 to foster awareness on the importance of tourism.
