THE Minister of Information, Publicity and Broadcasting Services Dr Jenfan Muswere says his ministry will prioritise human capital development and better remuneration for media practitioners.
He said this during his tour at the 3k TV studios in Harare this Wednesday to familiarise with their operations.
Responding to questions from journalists after the tour, Dr Muswere promised to look into the welfare of journalists and the issue of human capital development.
“We have heard discussion with other chief executive officers that, part of the responsibility in terms of the stakeholders’ approach is to ensure that we have a ministerial committee which also takes into consideration the importance of all media players. Issues to be discussed also include broadcasting issues, the two-way communication system, and of importance, is human capital development in terms of remuneration and welfare issues related to journalists. I can assure you that issues around remuneration are issues that are so close to my heart. We want a situation whereby the journalists who have the mandate and the shared responsibility to inform the nation to also have all the extrinsic and intrinsic and also fringe benefits related to their well-being so that they can also be in a position to take care of their families”
Dr Muswere, who was appointed Minister of Information, Publicity and Broadcasting Services last week started his familiarisation tours with a visit to ZBC studios in Harare on Tuesday, with plans in motion to also visit other media houses across the country.
