Food aid brings relief to rural families

Story by Jerold Sasa, Mashonaland East Burea Chief

BENEFICIARIES of food aid programmes in Mashonaland East province have commended the government and its partners for coming to their aid.

Speaking to the ZBC News at a joint monitoring programme by the government and its partners in Mudzi and Mutoko, the beneficiaries said the initiative has become a source of hope.

‘‘We are very excited about this program as it has helped us in reducing hunger in our communities after we failed to get a good harvest last season. We appeal to the government for the continuation of the programme as it is helping communities.’’

The government and its partners also pledged their continued support to ensure food security at the household level.

Minister of Public Service, Labour and Social Welfare Dr Paul Mavhima said, ‘‘As the government, we are very much committed to continuing with this programme which has done very well in helping our people who are in desperate need of food aid.’’

Country Director OF World Vision, Mr Asan Gorowa noted, ‘‘As a partner working with the government it is our duty to make sure all these communities get the maximum support in getting food aid so that no one suffers from hunger.’’

The number of targeted beneficiaries in Mashonaland East province is in excess of 4
