THE Government’s development partners are playing an active role in Zimbabwe’s drought relief efforts through importing grain for vulnerable households.

In a major boost for government’s plea towards drought mitigation, Care International has pledged over US$40 million towards the cause.

Care International Country Director, Mr Patrick Sikana revealed this at the ongoing Zimbabwe International Trade Fair in Bulawayo Thursday.

“In response to Government’s pleas towards drought alleviation, we have dedicated ourselves to ensure that everyone has access to food hence Care International will be mobilizing a us$40 billion dollar chest to assist the Government of Zimbabwe,” said Care International country director Mr Patrick Sikana.

Care International’s budget also includes replenishing the national herd.

“Families are set to sell their livestock to buy grain and they need to ensure that they replenish their stock after the season so we are also going to help those households.”

The organisation has been working in Zimbabwe since 1992 with the primary objective being to assist in drought relief efforts.

The latest Care International’s pledge is expected to go a long way in mobilising resources towards the US$2 billion drought relief budget set by government last month.
