RAW sewage flowing on the streets of Harare’s Mbare suburb has sent residents into panic mode, amid fresh fears of an outbreak water borne diseases in an area that has also gone for close to two weeks without running water.

For two weeks, residents of Tichagarika flats in Mbare have endured the unpleasant sight of raw sewer flowing into their homes while also having to cope with dry water tapes.

“The CCC council has really failed to run the affairs of the city and its very sad for us because these are the same people running again for office. We now leave in fear because we have young children who are always complaining of running tummies so every day we leave in fear,” said a resident.

“We have tried reporting this problem to the council, but nothing is being done. They don’t care about us yet they want their rates. The stench and flowing sewer has become almost normal, but that should not be the case. We don’t want this we are tired and the city fathers should act,” said another.

Efforts to get a comment from the Harare City Council were fruitless.

Mbare has over the years recorded cholera and typhoid outbreaks that have claimed lives due to a poor sewer reticulation system.

750 confirmed cases of Cholera have been confirmed in the country out of 2 903 suspected cases since the first Cholera outbreak in February this year.
