Broadcasters commended for telling true Zimbabwean story

Story by Abigirl Tembo

THE government has commended the country’s broadcasters for telling the true Zimbabwean story.

The Minister of Information, Publicity and Broadcasting Services, Dr Jenfan Muswere was at NKululeko Rusununguko Television (NRTV) this Thursday as he continues with familiarisation tours of media houses under his purview.

After the tour, Dr Muswere gave credit to local journalists for their good work adding that plans are in motion to further open the airways.

“Bringing other players will ensure that we have more voices in a position to discuss and broadcast the good story about Zimbabwe. What we need to emphasise is that the country must always come first, so, the different radio stations and television stations will allow Zimbabwe to have different positive opinions and direction in terms of how we protect our country.”

“At the same time, there is a lot that can be done to further bring on board more players because we are in the fourth industrial revolution and broadcasting. We have other content creators. Broadband phones and ICT gadgets have allowed any other Zimbabwean to be able to broadcast in the context of the fourth industrial revolution. We now need credible voices in terms of media and broadcasting, perhaps a fusion of the old broadcasting strategies plus the digital systems and also taking care of the realities on the ground,” said Dr Muswere.

The Second Republic has opened the airwaves which has witnessed the licensing of 14 community radio stations and six new television stations.
