Zimbabwe and the kingdom of Eswatini seek to increase cooperation in agriculture and tourism

Story by Josephine Mugiyo, Diplomatic Correspondent

PRESIDENT Emmerson Mnangagwa has received credentials for the new Kingdom of Eswatini’s Ambassador to Zimbabwe, Her Excellency Lindiwe Cynthia Kunene.

The newly appointed Ambassador says the two countries will work together, particularly in areas of agriculture and tourism.

This Friday morning saw Ambassador Designate of the Kingdom of Eswatini, Her Excellency Lindiwe Kunene, presenting her credentials to President Emmerson Mnangagwa at State House, Harare.

Ambassador Kunene, who held a closed-door meeting with President Mnangagwa after her presentation, said she will follow in the footsteps of her predecessors and work to grow relations between the two nations.

“We have discussed the cooperation between the two countries. In the footsteps of my predecessors, I will cooperate with the government of Zimbabwe,” noted Ambassador Kunene.

“We discussed the area of agriculture, tourism and culture, and we expect the two countries to work on cultural exchange,” she added.

Zimbabwe’s agricultural sector is on a growth trajectory, with the government putting in place deliberate policies that promote production.

In tourism, the country is also working to rebuild the sector following the slump caused by COVID-19.

The coming onboard of new airlines like Eswatini Air, which began its maiden flight into Zimbabwe last week, is also set to bolster the growth of the tourism sector.

Zimbabwe continues on its economic diplomacy trajectory and recently, President Mnangagwa noted the importance of the government’s ‘friend to all and enemy to none’ stance in the economic transformation of the nation.

Good relations with other countries are key for Zimbabwe as it seeks to grow export receipts.
