ZIMBABWE successfully defended their Rugby Africa Under-20 Barthes Trophy title by beating hosts Kenya 28-7 despite playing the last 30 minutes with 14 men in an exciting final in Nairobi on Sunday.
The Young Sables have now won the competition five times, since the inaugural edition in 2007 as they close in on record winners and rivals Namibia, who have won the competition nine times.
More importantly, the successful title defence ensured the Young Sables maintained their position as the best African Under-20 team outside of South Africa.
The victorious Young Sables have since returned home.
Meanwhile, the Paramount Garments Northern League senior championship continued this Saturday with exciting matches in the women’s division.
The much anticipated match between OGs Pitbulls and Zimbiru turned out to be a no contest after Zimbiru thumped the hosts 72-22 in the peak of the matches.
In other matches, Glenwood beat Hatcliffe 40-21, while Old Hararians continued with its fine start to the season after walloping Airforce 62-10.
In golf, Zimbabwe golf star Scott Vincent carded a closing four-under-par 67 in the third and final round of LIV Golf’s Singapore tournament to finish in fourth place at Sentosa Golf Club on Sunday.
Although he was unable to repeat his heroics of the second round when he set a course record of nine-under-par 62 to get into contention, his five birdies and just a single bogey in the final round saw him finish on 15-under-par, just two shots off the lead.
It was Vincent’s best finish on the LIV Golf circuit.
