GOVERNMENT has embarked on a US$4 million water project meant to improve the supply of the precious liquid in Victoria Falls in line with the resort city’s expansion.
The project, being implemented under a public-private partnership, with the government availing devolution funds, will see the upgrade of the Aerodrome pump station, construction of a new five mega litre ground tank, and a new pipeline to improve water supply in Mkhosana township.
“This is an exciting time for us as we move to ensure the NDS1 and other government projects are enacted to benefit the people of Victoria Falls,” stated Victoria Falls Acting Town Clerk, Mr Neville Ndlovu.
For a city that has been growing fast in the last decade, the government is satisfied with how the local authority is utilising devolution funds.
“As one of the seven natural wonders of the world and a UNESCO World Heritage Site, this is attesting to the fulfilment of substantially increased water use efficiency across all sectors,” noted Matabeleland North Minister of State for Provincial Affairs and Devolution, Honourable Richard Moyo.
Residents are also pleased with the development that is expected to transform lives.
Upon completion by next April, the Mkhosana water reservoirs will be another testimony of how resources being availed by the second republic are improving people’s lives and service delivery across the country.
