‘No room for drug and substance abuse in the security forces’

THE need for uniformed officers to shun drug and substance abuse and to improve skills and knowledge in line with modern trends, took centre stage at the Mbalabala School of Infantry graduation ceremony this Friday.
After undergoing months of intensive training at the Mbalabala School of Infantry, it was graduating time for 335 officers drawn from various formations and units within the Zimbabwe National Army and Zimbabwe Prison and Correctional Service.
Zimbabwe National Army Chief of Staff Quarter Master Staff Major General Hlanganani Dube expressed concern over drug and substance abuse within the uniformed forces.
General Hlanganani Dube said, “It is with great concern that drug and substance abuse has become a scourge that has greatly affected the youth of our nation. The Zimbabwe National Army has no place for members who indulge in drugs. Anyone found abusing or peddling drugs will be discharged instantly.”
Major General Dube also reminded the members of the defence forces to remain loyal and improve their skills and knowledge in line with modern trends.
“I am pleased to note that the graduates have been sufficiently drilled mentally and physically to endure both peace and wartime challenges. As regards drill, remember drill is the foundation of military discipline hence it can never be overemphasised,” he added.
The training is meant to equip and maintain the Zimbabwe Defence Force’s operational efficiency.
Meanwhile, the colourful ceremony saw those who excelled in various courses receiving certificates.
