Mukundu collaborates with Indian diva

Story by Colette Musanyera

BUDDING Afro-jazz musician, Takakunda Mukundu’s talent has caught the eye of Indian diva, Hamina Shah, and has seen the duo collaborating on a track titled ‘Laila.’

The talented guitar player, who is the son of veteran guitarist and music producer, Clive Mono Mukundu, is claiming his position in the music industry.

Hemina has been courting African musicians online, and Takakunda won her heart owing to his exceptional guitar strumming skills.

“Hemina discovered me on social media, where I post a lot of Zimbabwean guitar compositions. She was impressed by my artistry resulting in her reaching out to me for a collaboration which gave birth to Laila, a Hindi-afro song released last Friday,” said Mukundu.

“The song which was produced by my father, comprises both Hindi and Zim musical aspects and its receiving favourable feedback online,” he added.

A multi-instrumentalist who plays guitar, mbira, marimba, and drums, Takakunda has also worked with various international artists including Italian musician, Ferdinando Arno on a project called “Tamburi”, which earned a Tenco award in Italy last year.
