A 25-year-old man from Bindura has been arraigned before the courts for allegedly killing his teenage siblings in their asleep.

Allister Samhere of Chihumbiri farm appeared at Bindura Magistrates Court facing charges of murder after allegedly killing his 17-year-old brother, Leslie, and sister, Elsie aged 13.

The court heard that on Monday last week, the accused who was sleeping in a kitchen hut with his brother, woke up, took an axe, and allegedly struck him on the neck, cheek, and hands, killing him instantly.

Samhere allegedly went into another room where his sister was sleeping and killed her with an axe after striking the teenage girl several times on the neck.

The suspect reportedly hid the axe 100 metres from the homestead before he was apprehended by members of the community wearing blood-stained clothes.

Samhere has been remanded in custody until the fifth of next month.
