THE Presidential borehole sinking programme has become a transformative tool after improving water supply in Matabeleland North province which is reeling under the effects of a lean rainfall season.

Government has set out a target to sink a borehole in every village under the rural industrialisation drive.

To address food security issues, nutritional gardens are being established close to every borehole.

The projects are already transforming lives in Matabeleland North, with 2500 boreholes and nutritional gardens earmarked for the province.

“Our river Shangani is very fat. Coming to fetch water here is such a relief for us as women,” said one of the beneficiaries.

Another added, “We are happy for this programme and we want to thank the government, you don’t know how much this Borehole has brought relief to us. We now have a reliable supply of water and we are happy.”

Working with different partners such as ZINWA and Prevail International among others, the government says the thrust is to ensure adequate water supply and boost food production.

“This is the Second Republic’s mantra to leave no one and no place behind. The programme will ensure enough water supplies in and out of season. We are excited as the drilling of Boreholes continues in the province,” said the Matabeleland North Minister of State for Provincial Affairs and Devolution, Honourable Richard Moyo.

The latest development confirms that the future looks bright for the dry province of Matabeleland North where villagers are now assured of consistent water supply for domestic use and food production.
