Story by Patience Nyagato

Born Learnmore Mwanyenyeka, multi-award-winning stand-up comedian Long John continues to prove his mettle in the arts after qualifying to perform at the United States of America’s Africa Now Festival slated for the Apollo Theatre.

The comedian who is set to perform on the 13th of April is in high spirits. He described the opportunity to perform at the platform that celebrates the best cultural innovators from the African continent as a dream come true.

“On the 13th of April, I will be performing at the Apollo Theatre. This is part of the Africa Now festival which recognises African talent in America. As part of that, I and another Zimbabwean comedian Afro Kainga will be performing. Performing at the Apollo Theatre is a dream come true for me. When I dreamt of becoming a comedian I always wanted to perform there. It means a lot. This theatre housed a number of big stars that you know today like Steve Harvey. This is a sign for me that I am on the right track to being among the big stars one day. I’m ready I am going there to tell my Zimbabwean story,” Long John says.

John promises to represent the country well at the Apollo Comedy Club where he will share the stage with another Zimbabwean Alfred Kainga, Nigerian-born comedian Quadir Yussuf and South Africa’s Karman Naidoo.

The Africa Now Festival features music and entertainment from the continent which is driving trends across all facets of culture around the globe.

The festival will see the performance of the likes of Nigeria’s Seun Kuti and Preye.
