Highlanders one point better

Story by Lawrence Trusida, Sports Editor

LOG leaders Highlanders are a point better than last season at the same stage after being held to a goalless draw by Arenel Movers at Barbourfields Stadium this Sunday.

The Bulawayo giants are on top of the log with 19 points after 10 matches.

At the same stage last season, Bosso were also on top of the log with 18 points.

However, the major difference between the two seasons has been the goals as last year Highlanders had scored seven goals after 10 matches, while this season they have found the back of the net 15 times.

Despite being potent upfront, Bosso have also been leaking goals at the back after conceding seven goals as compared to last year when they had let in just two goals.

However, last season the Bulawayo giants failed to mount a title challenge despite going undefeated for 19 matches.

Can Bosso do better this time around and end their long wait for title glory?

Other teams like Dynamos and CAPS United are a point worse off than they were last season, while defending champions Ngezi Platinum Stars have five points fewer than the 17 they had at the same stage last season.

Simba Bhora is the most improved club, having gained seven points from the 10 they had at the same stage in their debut campaign.

At the same stage last season, Cranborne Bullets, Sheasham, Green Fuel, and Black Rhinos were the bottom four, and only Chisumbanje-based Green Fuel managed to escape relegation.

After 10 matches, Yadah, Arenel Movers, Chegutu Pirates, and Hwange are in the bottom four.

With 24 matches still outstanding, clubs will be starting to measure their progress based on their aspirations.
