45-year-old Elijah Kubikwa from Epworth, Harare has appeared in court facing charges of rape after being accused of sexually abusing his five-year-old neighbour.

Allegations are that Kubikwa lured the girl to his house where he raped her.

He was remanded in custody and advised to apply for bail at the High Court.

Meanwhile, a commuter omnibus driver Tafadzwa Mugabe aged 27 has been arrested for attempting to kill a police officer.

It is alleged that Mugabe was instructed to stop at a police roadblock, but he ignored the signal and ran over the police officer injuring him in the process.

Still at the courts, more suspected fraudsters who allegedly faked rebate letters to import vehicles have appeared in court facing charges of fraud.

Vincent Chitate aged 34, Alex Pedziva (44) and Simbarashe Mudeye, (37) allegedly faked rebate letters to evade paying duty for imported vehicles.

More than 20 other individuals have appeared in court on the same charges since the Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission (ZACC) and ZIMRA launched an operation targeting those abusing the civil servants rebate facility.

A total of 36 cars have also been seized.
