Zimbabweans have been implored to take the Easter holidays as a time to reflect and self-introspect at a time the Christian community is observing the sacrifice made by Jesus Christ.

This Thursday evening, the Christian community observed the Holy Thursday, that is the Passover when Christ shared the Last Supper with his disciples.

Vice President General (Retired) Dr Constantino Chiwenga, who was part of the congregants at the Roman Catholic Church in Highfield, Harare Thursday night reminded the citizenry that this is not a time to make merry, but to reflect on the love of Christ and self-introspect.

“It is not a period to make merry, but to think about what we need to do with our lives after God sacrificed his own Son. It is not time to go out and drink out of your mind. It’s time to self-introspect how we have lived and self-respect,” he said.

The month of April also provides the opportunity to commemorate the lives of those who sacrificed for Zimbabwe’s independence.

He added, “We are also preparing to harvest so as Zimbabweans we should also prepare, and this whole month is time to remember our independence, it is the same month that we remember the Seven Heroes of the Chinhoyi Battle, we go out and remember it’s a big month.”

The Easter holiday is a time when the Christian community reflects on the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ.
