Drones for Beitbridge Border Post

Story by Providence Maraneli

GOVERNMENT has intensified efforts to boost revenue collection and curb leakages at Beitbridge Border Post after deploying drone technology and electronic cargo tracking.

The biometric system and automation at the country’s busiest port of entry has improved efficiency at the Beitbridge border post.

The Zimbabwe Revenue Authority (ZIMRA) has now gone further to deploy drones and an electronic cargo tracking system to halt leakages.

“Can you please zoom in on the activities happening at the bus terminal,” said one of the ZIMRA officers.

Another added, “These drones have night vision that allows us to monitor even at night.”

ZIMRA Commissioner, Mrs Regina Chinamasa said, “The system will enable us to pursue our mandate as a government agency, we are going to minimise any leakage and in doing so we are going to boost revenue collection.”

Finance, Economic Development and Investment Promotion Minister, Professor Mthuli Ncube who was in Beitbridge to launch the drone and electronic cargo system this Thursday, reiterated the government’s stance on improving efficiency.

“I am impressed by what I saw and as a government, we are dedicated to having efficiency everywhere and the system will boost revenue collection and with revenue collection comes development,” he said.

The Second Republic has prioritised efficiency in public institutions and is seized with improving the quality of service at state institutions, including ports of entry.
