Anti-stock theft campaign bears fruit in Mash Central

THE ongoing anti-stock theft drive has gone a long way in combating cattle rustling in Mashonaland Central province.
This comes after a suspected cattle rustler was arrested after being caught with a herd of eight cattle that went missing in Mount Darwin.
Mashonaland Central Police Spokesperson Inspector Milton Mundembe confirmed that the cattle had been recovered after they were reported missing on the 16th of this month.
A swift reaction by members of the Chingano village stock theft committee resulted in 26-year-old Gilbert Chiwocha of Chesa Mount Darwin being arrested for allegedly stealing the 8 beasts.
Chiwocha was intercepted by members of the committee while he was driving the cattle to an unknown destination.
They went on to alert the police after the suspect failed to produce police and veterinary clearance for the movement of cattle valued at 2 US$400.
“We applaud members of the public for the good arrests following the establishment of anti-stock theft village liaison committees across the province. These are some of the notable benefits following our recent Provincial campaign at Mapere school in Mvurwi by Commissioner Musvengana following a spate of anti-stock theft cases,” said Inspector Mundembe.
Meanwhile, two other cattle rustlers have been apprehended in connection with the theft of two Oxen valued at US$1200 in Guruve.
The theft was foiled by a suspicious transporter who was hired to ferry the cattle.
