Thirteen Zimbabweans are feared dead while 46 people were injured in a road accident that occurred in South Africa’s Western Cape province early this morning.

A Simlex coach bus that was travelling from Harare to Robertson in the Western Cape, South Africa, and carrying Zimbabweans, was involved in an accident early Sunday morning that reportedly claimed 13 lives and left 46 others injured.

Zimbabwe’s Consular General in Cape Town, Ms Esther Mudambo confirmed the accident, which occurred when the Simlex bus collided with a haulage truck.

Enias sibanda, a Zimbabwean whose relative was on the bus spoke to the ZBC News.

“I received a call that a Simlex bus that was coming from Harare had been involved in an accident and that some of my relatives were injured,” he said.

Another Zimbabwean, Melusi Sibanda said, “I was on the bus, but there was a man who made a scene in the bus saying he wanted the bus to stop so that he could get off. He spoke of a bad omen and he started crying and being hysterical. The driver tried his best to avert the accident, but could not avoid the lorry that was coming as we were heading towards a hillstart.”

The injured have since been ferried to Noodsentrum Hospital in the Western Cape
