Story by Peter Chivhima

THE International Criminal Police Organisations (INTERPOL) has commended Zimbabwe for its determination and commitment in fighting organised and sophisticated crime.

The visiting INTERPOL Executive Director of Police Services Mr Stephen Kavanagh who is in the country to discuss regional security issues says Zimbabwe is on the right track in fighting organised and sophisticated crimes.

“I had an opportunity to here in Zimbabwe where I was briefed on how the nation is fighting cybercrime, the issue of drugs and other crimes. I am impressed that Zimbabwe is contributing to the region in helping fight crime,” he said.

Mr Kavanagh also implored member states to cooperate and exchange notes in the fight against transnational and emerging crimes in the region.

“There is a need for member states to share notes so that people work together on how to deal with sophisticated crimes. Member states also need to trust each other.”

Zimbabwe is among the 195 INTERPOL member states with the mandate of enabling the police to work together to prevent and fight transnational organised crimes.
