Miss Universe Zimbabwe returns

Story by Colette Musanyera, Arts Reporter

ONE of the country’s most prestigious pageants, Miss Universe Zimbabwe, returns on the 16th of this month, with the event slated for the Hippodrome in Braeside, Harare.

The Miss Universe Zimbabwe who will be crowned on the 16th of this month, will represent the country at the 72nd edition of Miss Universe set for El Salvador in November.

“We did auditions in all the country’s 10 provinces and we also had participants from the diaspora province. We managed to come up with the top 25 before trimming down to 12. The 12 finalists are from various provinces in Zimbabwe, with one each from Canada, Australia and the UK. Preparations are now at an advanced stage for the big day and we are following the rules and regulations of the Miss Universe stage,” said Miss Universe Zimbabwe national director, Tendai Hunda.

Organisers have released the names of the 12 finalists of the pageant, which will held under the theme ‘Beautifully Confident ‘.

Zimbabwe’s last appearance at the Global pageant was in 2001, with Corrin Crew having made it into the top 10 at the Miss Universe finals in 2000.
