FORMER cabinet minister, Ambassador Cain Mathema has added a strand in Zimbabwean political and historical literature through a book launched in Harare this Thursday.
‘Zimbabwe Diverse, But One’ is a book based on reflections by Ambassador Mathema on how the country was built as one by diverse ethnic groups.
Based on lived experience, Ambassador Mathema brings out the need for unity of purpose to fight ethnic conflicts fueled by the country’s colonisers.
“They love to see us fight, but we should not follow them. Our ancestors were inclusive and accepted all who came. So as Zimbabweans we must go back to our history and see how our ancestors manage to stay united and even went to war together. We should look into how we build the economy of this country. We should share all we have despite ethnicity. They don’t want us to own this world and resources we have, and this is exactly what prompted me to write this book.”
In a speech read on his behalf, the Minister of Information, Publicity and Broadcasting Services, Dr Jenfan Muswere said the book is in line with government’s national unity and economic empowerment mantra and adds to political and historical literature in the country.
“The Second Republic is putting more focus on economic development and empowerment on a national scale. This is in line with our economic blueprint. This book calls for national pride and unity to build from all fronts and ‘Nyika Inovakwa Nevane Vayo’ mantra is well captured in this book,” he said.
The book adds to his canon which comprises other books like ‘Defend the Zimbabwe Defence and Security Forces’, and ‘Newspapers in Zimbabwe’ among others.
