Career-defining match for Ngezi Platinum coach

Story Lawrence Trusida, Sports Editor

NGEZI Platinum Stars are on the verge of glory with the Mhondoro-based side set to be crowned champions if they beat Simba Bhora in a Castle Lager Premier Soccer League match slated for Baobab Stadium this Saturday.

After seven years in the topflight, Ngezi Platinum Stars are set to witness arguably their greatest 90 minutes in the Premier Soccer League.

Although the Mhondoro-based side bagged the Chibuku Super Cup in 2016, winning the coveted league title will be the highest point in their Premier Soccer League journey.

Madamburo are on top of the log with a seven-point advantage over second-placed Manica Diamonds and a win against Simba Bhora this Saturday will take them to an unassailable 63 points with two matches to go.

The task is, however, not easy as they face a Simba Bhora side that is fighting for survival although they are in a healthy position on the log.

The encounter has been spiced up by the fact that they will be facing their former coach Tonderai Ndiraya and players like Partson Jaure.

Youthful Ngezi Platinum Stars coach Takesure Chiragwi, however, wants his players to come to the party in front of their home fans.

“We are playing at home in front of our fans. We really need to make sure we give a good fight and finish on a high note. We need to make sure we are on top not by chance, but because we are working hard from the first day in preseason, the guys fought for their names for the club and for the coach,” he said.

In other matches this Saturday, basement club Cranborne Bullets take on Manica Diamonds at the National Sports Stadium.

The Army side will be relegated this Saturday if they fail to beat Manica Diamonds and Triangle, Sheasham or Yadah collect maximum points.

Sheasham welcome ZPC Kariba to Bata Stadium for an interesting survival battle with the two sides separated by just two points.

On Sunday Dynamos and Chicken Inn battle for the wooden spoon at the National Sports Stadium while Yadah take on FC Platinum at Baobab Stadium looking for nothing short of victory to survive relegation.

Hwange face Black Rhinos who a trying to script a great survival story after having been at the bottom of the log for the greater part of the season.

Bulawayo giants Highlanders who are winless in five matches take on Herentals at Barbourfields Stadium, while CAPS United travel to Chisumbanje for a date against Green Fuel with both sides needing a single victory to survive.

Triangle and Bulawayo Chiefs who are just above the drop zone battle to make further ground from the bottom four at Luveve Stadium.
