ZANU PF Secretary for Information and Publicity, Ambassador Christopher Mutsvangwa has challenged foreign journalists to avoid peddling falsehoods and pursuing imperialistic agendas divorced from the reality in Zimbabwe.
Most media organisations in South Africa have been on the warpath with Zimbabwe vilifying the political leadership and the ruling ZANU PF party in a move that has not gone down well with progressive minds.
Newzroom Afrika news anchor, Xoli Mngambi this Thursday interviewed ZANU PF Secretary for Information and Publicity, Ambassador Christopher Mutsvangwa, who was unequivocal in explaining the tragedy of journalists falling into an imperialistic agenda.
Ambassador Mutsvangwa said, “We take responsibility for making sure that Zimbabwe becomes the fastest-growing economy in Africa. You can’t read figures yourself and come to Zimbabwe and see what’s happening on the ground. I don’t speak like a person who is based in the studio, who speaks like a propagandist.”
“I am responsible for the investment projects that I’m talking about. I know what is happening, we are building the largest steel plant in Africa, we are building lithium plants, we are exporting lithium concentrate, we are revamping our National Railways of Zimbabwe, we are growing our economy the World Bank has said so and the IMF and only you some bony heads who are trying to paint Zimbabwe in a certain manner trying to make us look like we are a basket case, we are not,” he added.
This comes at a time when the International Monetary Fund has projected that Zimbabwe’s economy will grow at a rate of between 2.5% and 2.6% between 2023 and 2024.
The World Bank has projected a 2.9% growth rate for Zimbabwe at a time the global average growth rate is 2.1%.
