ZIMBABWE is set to host the inaugural edition of the Munhumutapa Heritage Awards in September this year.

The event will serve as Zimbabwe’s definitive platform for recognising outstanding individuals, traditional leaders, historians, cultural icons, and organisations that have demonstrated exceptional commitment to safeguarding the nation’s heritage.

Organisers say the initiative seeks to complement ongoing national efforts to preserve indigenous knowledge systems and promote Zimbabwe’s cultural heritage for future generations.

The Chief Executive Officer of Munhumutapa Heritage Awards, Mr Vusa Hlatshwayo, said the awards go beyond recognising achievements in the arts by celebrating all aspects of Zimbabwe’s cultural heritage.

“The inaugural Munhumutapa Heritage Awards are a premier national platform that holistically recognises and celebrates excellence in cultural preservation and heritage promotion across all sectors. We transcend the arts encompassing language, traditional knowledge, customs and community practices. We are actively complementing the national leadership’s pivotal role in the revival and awakening of cultural heritage promotion.”

The awards are expected to become an annual event celebrating excellence in heritage preservation while encouraging greater appreciation of Zimbabwe’s diverse cultural traditions, languages and indigenous knowledge systems.
