UNITED Nations Development Programme (UNDP) Ambassador-Designate to Zimbabwe, Rosemary Kalapurakal, presented her credentials to President Dr Emmerson Mnangagwa at State House in Harare on Thursday.
Ambassador Kalapurakal was appointed United Nations Resident Coordinator on June 1 and is expected to lead the organisation’s development coordination efforts in Zimbabwe.
Speaking after presenting her credentials, she said her priorities would centre on advancing inclusive and sustainable development through a multi-sectoral approach to key challenges facing the country.
She highlighted areas such as the impact of climate change on agriculture and efforts to unlock financing for the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
Ambassador Kalapurakal also commented on Zimbabwe’s recent election to a non-permanent seat on the United Nations Security Council, saying the country was well positioned to contribute meaningfully to international affairs.
She said Zimbabwe could draw on its experience and growing influence at regional and global levels to advance the principles and ideals enshrined in the United Nations Charter.
Her appointment comes as Zimbabwe continues to engage with international partners on development priorities, climate resilience and sustainable economic growth.
