Government works to restore electricity supplies

THE government is working flat out to restore electricity supplies in all parts of the country, with the ongoing restoration of five units at Hwange Power Station expected to be completed by Friday this week.

Presenting a power supply update in Harare this Tuesday, the Acting Minister of Energy and Power Development, Dr Jenfan Muswere outlined interventions taken to ease power outages following technical faults at Hwange Power Station and Harare sub-station in Highfield.

Dr Muswere highlighted progress in terms of restoring normal power supplies.

In a statement this Tuesday, the power utility, ZESA confirmed that Unit 2 of the Hwange Power Station was affected by a tube leak, while all other units were affected by a possible water contamination.

According to ZESA, repairs are in progress with all the five affected units expected to be fully operational by the end of day on Friday.
