Namibia’s former President Sam Nujoma dies

Former Namibia’s President Sam Nujoma has died.

He was 95.

The death of the African icon was announced this Sunday by Namibian President Dr Nangolo Mbumba.

President Mbumba said former President Nujoma died late Saturday night in Windhoek after being hospitalised for the past three weeks.

He added that Sam Nujoma provided strong leadership to his country and spared no effort to motivate each and every Namibian to build a country that would stand tall and proud among the nations of the world.

Sam Nujoma is remembered as a revolutionary icon who fought for the independence of not only Namibia but Southern Africa and the continent at large.

He was President of Namibia from 1990 to 2005 and his achievements include establishing democratic institutions and prioritising reconciliation in the Southern African country.
