AN exciting year lies ahead with several infrastructure development projects including the Trabablas Traffic Interchange set for completion in 2025.
This emerged during the Harare provincial media tour organised by the Minister of Information, Publicity and Broadcasting Services, Dr Jenfan Muswere.
In line with government’s target of attaining an upper-middle-income society by 2030, the year 2025 has started on a positive note with transformative projects set to be completed in the first quarter.
The temporary Mbare Traders market is set to take in at least 5000 traders next month, paving way for the construction of the permanent structure.
The Trabablas traffic interchange is taking shape with the contractor, TEFOMA having completed the construction of all bridges with some now open to traffic.
“We are at 86% complete at the interchange, we have poured concrete on all bridges and they are complete. The scope of work includes 15 bridges, of which 13 bridges are on the main interchange. The progress of all the 15 bridges is at 97% percent complete, all the deck levels are done. All bridges at the interchange are complete and we have 21 kilometres of road network which is at 80% complete. Overall, we are at 86% complete on the interchange,” Fossil Contracting’s head of operations Engineer Kudakwashe Maguta said.
Masimba Holdings’ chief executive officer, Engineer Fungai Matahwa said, “In terms of progress, we are sitting at 82 percent complete. We will complete it in the third week and officially on February 1, traders will be using the market. The market will accommodate 5000 traders.”
“108 new units on cards at Madokero and the Pension Fund also provided funding for the other project where we were at Madokero Creek. This mall was officially opened by the President in December 2022 as the first phase, then the second phase was opened in June 2024. The leasing arrangement was done in a way that you provide everything that the local community needs,” noted Exodus and Company’s chief executive officer, Mr Progress Mambo.
The Minister of Information, Publicity and Broadcasting Services, Dr Jenfan Muswere and his Deputy Dr Ompile Marupi, Minister of Harare Provincial Affairs and Devolution Senator Charles Tawengwa and senior government officials were part of the Harare provincial media tour.
The projects include the completed Boulevard Road, Nemakonde Way, Dzivarasekwa Flats, Madokero Creek and shopping mall as well as the VVIP pavilion at the Robert Mugabe International Airport.
“We have started the provincial media tours and we are happy that there are projects which have been completed while others are ongoing. We have been briefed about the expansion at Robert Mugabe International Airport which now handles 6 million travellers annually from 1.5 million. We have had that the Mbare traders market will be completed soon as well as the Trabablas traffic interchange. Tomorrow we are heading Mashonaland East,” said Dr Muswere.
Harare has recorded massive infrastructure development ranging from housing, roads, shopping malls, and the revamping of Robert Mugabe International Airport.
The developments are among more than 100 projects that have been completed in Harare province.
