Government has withdrawn an offer letter from Chishawasha B Farm offered to Mr Terrence Mukupe’s Farmtel Investments.
The farm measuring 654 hectares and located in Goromonzi just after Manresa has been at the centre of a dispute between the farmers who have A1 permits and Mr Mukupe whose company had earmarked the land for residential stands with Mukupe having started the process of evicting the farmers.
“We are here to notify you that as government we have withdrawn the offer letter so no one will be evicted,” said the Minister of National Housing and Social Amenities, Honourable Daniel Garwe.
“We can’t have land barons coming to evict our farmers on state land, our President will never allow that,” Mashonaland East Minister of State for Provincial Affairs, Senator Aplonia Munzverengwi.
The move has been welcomed by the ruling ZANU PF party and the farmers.
“We are a party that stand for the people so we will never abandon our people when they face people like land barons,” noted Cde Kudzai Majuru, ZANU PF Mashonaland East vice chairman.
A farmers representativesaid, “We thank our President for standing with us during these difficult times. We came here a long-time ago and for someone to come with a fake offer letter to come and evict us is very unfair.
The farmers got onto the land in the year 2000 and most had offer letters which were processed in 2010.
