Government says it is finalising the introduction of technical high schools across the country as part of its competency-based learning programme.
Mutare Boys High School is one of the identified ten technical high schools that will pioneer government’s competency-based learning programme.
At a Secretary’s Belly Merit award function to Chibuwe High School this Friday, Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education Mrs Tumisang Thabela highlighted the importance of the programme in nurturing life skills.
“As we are piloting nationally, we expect provinces and districts to pilot also. What we are saying is we want to move from the traditional school which is generalised and come up with schools that will focus on a particular area of specialization,” said Ms Thabela.
The Permanent Secretary also revealed that the government is reviewing the new curriculum.
“We are in the process of ensuring serious uptake of the stem programme as such we are challenging each school to at least convert one classroom into a laboratory. This is meant to accommodate and take on board rural schools that may not be able to afford to establish new facilities. As government we are not changing the curriculum but rather taking into consideration changed brought about by disturbances such as the Covid-19 pandemic.”
Meanwhile, the government has transformed the country’s education sector through the introduction of Education 5.0 which focus more on production, innovation and technological developments.
