Chevrons shift focus to West Indies test matches

Story by Lawrence Trusida, Sports Editor

THE West Indies have arrived in Zimbabwe for two test matches against the Chevrons at Queens Sports Club in Bulawayo.

After two closely contested limited over series against Ireland, the Zimbabwe Senior men’s cricket team, the Chevrons, have shifted their attention to the longer version of the game where they will face the West Indies.

The West Indies arrived in Bulawayo this Monday evening ahead of two test matches against Zimbabwe at Queens Sports Club which get underway on the 4th of next month.

The last match up between Zimbabwe and the Caribbeans was in 2017, with the visitors winning the two match test series played at Queens Sports Club.
West Indies won the first test while the second ended in a draw resulting in the Chevrons conceding the series.

The visitors have named a strong 15-men squad led by Captain Kraig Braithwaite, while fast bowler Shannon Gabriel who hasn’t played a test match in over a year is back.

Spinners Jomel Warrican and Gudakesh Motie have also been recalled, but Jordan Seales has been omitted due to injury.

The Brathwaite-led side will first play a 4-day warm-up game at Bulawayo Athletic Club beginning this Saturday before meeting Zimbabwe in the two-match Test series, starting on the 4th February at Queens Sports Club.

Zimbabwe last played a test match in July 2021 and will be eager to get back to grips with red ball cricket ahead of other test matches against Ireland and Afghanistan before the end of the year.
