Caps United put last season’s disappointment behind them

Story by Lawrence Trusida, Sports Editor

HARARE giants Caps United are determined to put the disappointment of last season behind them as they prepare for the upcoming Castle Lager Premier Soccer League season scheduled to begin next month.

Last season, the name Caps United was synonymous with strikes, losses and all sorts of negatives, and the Green Machine eventually finished the season on 11th position after staring relegation at one point.

However, just as a new year brings new hope, 2023 has been different for the former champions as there seems to be peace and tranquillity in the Makepekepe camp.

The club has also brought in players with proven pedigree in the Premier league.

The Green Machine snatched Adrian Silla from Highlanders as well two-time premier league winner, Kelvin Madzongwe from Bulawayo Chiefs and versatile Godknows Murwira from Dynamos, among others.

“We have started well, there is unity of purpose here and we have brought in quality players unlike last season. So we are hopeful of having a better season. The players are focused and that’s good as we prepare and if we prepare well the results will show on the field of play,” said Caps United coach, Lloyd Chitembwe.

Chitembwe also had a message for the Makepekepe faithfuls who stuck with the team even during difficult times.

“The fans are special and I felt their pain and understood what they were going through last season, but this season will be different and we promise them a better Caps United, the one they know.”

Meanwhile, Caps United are believed to be on the verge of signing Highlanders attacking midfielder Devine Mhindirira who has fallen out with the Bosso executive.

The Green Machine have so far signed six players and released eight players among them Valentine Musarurwa, Marshal Machazane, Kenneth Bulaji and Amon Kambanje, among others.
